Hi Ho Hi Ho It's Off to Work We Go…

It would appear that working and blogging are not compatible, at least not quite yet. I am in my third week back at work and although the ‘getting back to work’ part has been great, the leaving the boys and losing my dog and commuting part have been a little much!

To top that we also decided to finally take back our house and re-arrange the boys so that they are in their own room (no longer sharing their nursery with our office). This moves us back to the master bedroom, way up in our loft so the separation anxiety continues for me. Yes, I have a baby monitor and Yes, I can hear them even without the baby monitor because the house is tiny but I am no longer sleeping literally next door. I can’t hear ever sniffle and sneeze quite the same way I could before and that makes my sleep just a little more restless.

Hi Ho Hi Ho – It's off to work we go! There is much to be said and written about moms going back to work. The ‘mompinions’ (my new word for opinionated moms!) on this are literally boundless but there is one piece of advice I will share on this topic that was shared with me by wise moms and non-moms alike: ‘You will do what is right for you and your family and you WILL figure it out!’

And it is true. That doesn’t mean I have it all figured out by any means, but we are all doing our best. I worry daily about all sorts of significant and insignificant things related to ‘what’s going on at home’ but in my professional day there are also singular moments of pure concentration and personal accomplishment I honestly haven’t had in many months. Add that work-world contribution to the pure fulfillment of having been a stay at home mom for 16 months and I feel pretty fortunate.

So, lots of change and fun times around here! We had a busy and eventful Easter weekend visiting with family which was terrific.  I am truly enjoying my new job and seriously looking forward to spring. The boys have a wonderful Nanny who I feel completely confident leaving them with and that, for me is really the most important thing of all.

Next up?! We took the boys skiing again and the photos are priceless.

Love

You have a wise friend who said you’ll figure out what is right for you. You gave your boys a fantastic start and that first year plus is so important! My daughter slept in our room for the first year or more. She didn’t sleep properly through the night nor did I. My son, who we took home from the orphanage at a year and half has always sleep deeply and uninterrupted. Sleep is so important for a happy healthy life. Turn off your monitor and just leave the doors open but your wise friend said it all!

I agree Susan. We all definitely need our sleep to function properly. I have been really lucky with boys who sleep through the night (usually!) but it is still hard to sleep soundly with one ear glued to the monitor :) Do they sleep well now? Just curious if they hold on to their sleep patterns as they grow up.

Love your “mompinion” and it is so true that going back to work shakes things up, but hey you might find a new you! I know that when I work I appreciate the time with the kids a lot more. Keep posting love reading!

Thanks Laura! I agree. The weekends are so much more meaningful when you are away on the weekdays.
